Sky Packages and Prices: What Every Tier Actually Costs

Sky sells television as a base package plus a stack of add-ons, and the advertised headline price is almost never what leaves your account. This page prices every Sky package as it stands in 2026, explains what Signature actually contains, and shows exactly where the bill grows between the checkout page and month thirteen.

The short answer

  • Signature is the base package. Everything else is an add-on bolted onto it.
  • Sports and Cinema can more than double a Signature bill on their own.
  • Nearly every Sky contract has a scheduled mid-term price rise built in.
  • Three legal alternatives cover most of the same television for far less.

Sky does not sell a single television product. It sells a base package called Signature and then a shelf of add-ons — sport, cinema, kids, ultra-HD, extra rooms — each with its own monthly price, its own minimum term and its own renewal behaviour. The number in the advert is the base. The number on your bank statement is the base plus whatever you agreed to in the last two steps of the checkout.

That structure is not dishonest, but it is genuinely hard to hold in your head, and it is the single most common reason people tell us their Sky bill is not what they expected. So this page does the arithmetic in public: what each Sky package contains, what it costs on its own, what it costs in the combinations people actually buy, and what happens to that figure partway through the contract.

Prices below are the indicative 2026 rates we have seen on Sky’s own site and on live accounts in our households. Sky prices vary by postcode, by delivery method and by whatever promotion is running the week you sign, so treat them as the right order of magnitude rather than a quote.

How Sky packages and prices are actually structured

Every Sky television subscription in Britain is built the same way. You take a base entertainment package, you choose how it is delivered to the house, and then you add optional content packs. Those are three separate decisions with three separate prices, and conflating them is where most confusion starts.

The three decisions

1. Base package
Signature — the entertainment channels everyone gets
2. Delivery
Sky Stream puck, Sky Glass TV, or a Sky Q dish
3. Add-ons
Sports, Cinema, Kids, UHD, extra rooms
Minimum term
Usually 24 months on the base package
Add-on term
Often 31 days — these can be dropped monthly
Price rise
Typically scheduled, often around month 13

The important asymmetry is in those last two rows. The base package usually locks you in for two years. Most content add-ons run on rolling 31-day terms, which means Sky Sports is not a two-year commitment even when the television underneath it is. Almost nobody realises this, and it is the single most useful thing on this page.

What is Sky Signature package cover, and what does it miss?

Signature is Sky’s starting package: the entertainment channels and the drama line-up that most people picture when they think of Sky. Sport and films are not in it — Sky Sports and Sky Cinema are separate add-ons, and those are what push the bill up.

Sky Signature is the base entertainment package and the thing people mean when they say they "have Sky". It carries the Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky Showcase and Sky Comedy channels, the full Freeview line-up, Sky’s own on-demand library, and — this is the part that surprises people — Netflix at its ad-supported tier, included at no extra cost. That bundling matters more than it sounds, and we have set out what every streaming service costs on its own so you can see what Sky is actually absorbing.

  • Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Sky Showcase, Sky Crime, Sky History, Sky Documentaries
  • All the free-to-air channels — BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and their +1s
  • The full Sky on-demand catalogue and catch-up for everything above
  • Netflix, ad-supported tier, bundled in at no extra monthly cost
  • Sky’s voice remote, the interface, and the recommendation rail

What Signature does not carry is anything with the word Sports or Cinema on it, and it does not carry 4K. Those are the three most common add-ons, and each one is priced separately. A household that signs up expecting Signature to include Premier League football has misread the package, and it is an easy mistake because Sky’s own advertising leans heavily on football imagery.

Signature is also the package that decides which physical product you can have. It is available on Sky over broadband, on the all-in-one Sky television and on a traditional Sky Q dish installation, and the base content is identical across all three. Only the delivery, the hardware cost and the recording behaviour change.

How much does Sky TV cost per month?

Set beside those figures, here is what the same channels and the same sport cost as a single up-front payment. This page is about live channels and Sky Sports, so both quality tiers are shown: IPTV 4K Ultra for HDR and Dolby Atmos, and IPTV 8K Ultra Max above it for the widest channel list we carry. Every term is paid once, and none of them renews.

Read those two groups against Sky’s own pricing and the shape of the comparison becomes obvious. Sky’s base package is deliberately cheap and the margin lives in the sports add-ons, which is why a fully loaded Sky bill lands between £80 and £100 a month on an eighteen-month contract. The twenty-four-month term above costs less in total than a single month of that, and the sport is not sold separately.

What each add-on costs on top of the Sky packages above

Add-ons are priced per month on top of Signature. These are the rates we have seen in 2026, and the right-hand column is the one worth reading — it is what the add-on costs you across a full year if you never drop it.

Extra Stream puck~£6 eachWith base term£72
Sky BroadbandFrom ~£2718–24 months£324+
Indicative Sky add-on pricing, August 2026. Promotional rates are common and change frequently.

Sky Sports at £324 a year is the line that matters. The Premier League season runs August to May — ten months, not twelve. Dropping Sports for June and July costs nothing and saves roughly £54 a year, and it is the least painful saving available to a Sky household. Cricket viewers should invert that logic and keep it through the summer instead.

When does Sky raise the price mid-contract?

Twice, in effect. Most contracts are sold at a promotional rate for twelve months, then step up to the standard rate for the rest of a twenty-four-month term — disclosed, but with no right to leave. Separately, an inflation-linked rise lands each spring, and that one usually does carry a thirty-day cancellation window.

When the Sky TV cost actually rises

This is the part of Sky pricing that generates the most complaints, and it is entirely disclosed — just not prominently. Most Sky television contracts are sold at a promotional rate for the first twelve months, after which the price steps up to the standard rate for the remainder of the term. Because the minimum term is usually twenty-four months, you spend the second year paying materially more than you agreed to in the first, with no right to leave.

Per year, on the base alone

Separately from the scheduled step-up, Sky applies an annual inflation-linked increase, usually announced in the spring. That one does normally trigger a right to cancel penalty-free if the increase was not fixed and disclosed at the point of sale — but the window is short, typically thirty days from the notification, and Sky is not going to remind you twice.

The letter is worth reading properly rather than filing. There is usually a real decision inside a thirty-day window.

  1. Check whether the rise was pre-disclosed

A scheduled step-up written into your original contract does not give you a cancellation right. An unannounced inflation increase generally does.

  2. Note the deadline

If a cancellation right applies, it typically expires thirty days after notification. After that you are held to the new price for the rest of the term.

  3. Price the alternatives before you call

Know what NOW TV, Freely or Freesat would cost you before speaking to retentions. A concrete number is the only leverage that reliably works.

  4. Ask for the retentions team by name

The first line agent usually cannot match a competitor. Saying you intend to cancel routes you to someone who can.

Should you get Sky Stream, Sky Glass or Sky Q?

The Signature content is identical across all three. What differs is the hardware bill attached to it, and that is where the real long-run cost difference sits.

01

Sky Stream

No hardware cost

  • A puck arrives in the post, no installation
  • No hardware charge on top of the subscription
  • No recording — a cloud Playlist instead
  • Cheapest way into the Sky ecosystem
02

Sky Glass

+£14–46/mo hardware

  • The television itself is financed over 24 or 48 months
  • Interest-free credit — it is a credit agreement
  • Sound system built into the frame
  • You are buying a TV and a subscription together
03

Sky Q

Dish + engineer

  • Requires a satellite dish and an installation visit
  • The only option with a genuine local hard disk
  • Works when the broadband does not
  • Increasingly the legacy product

Sky Glass deserves one specific warning. The television is sold on interest-free credit over up to forty-eight months, which is a genuine credit agreement subject to a credit check and recorded accordingly. Cancelling the Sky subscription does not cancel the television finance — you keep paying for the set. Our full Sky Glass review covers this in detail, and it is the compromise people most often discover late.

What are the cheaper alternatives to Sky?

Three legal routes cover most of what Sky carries for a fraction of the cost — Virgin now carries most of the same channels too, as Sky vs Virgin sets out — and for football specifically the cheapest way to watch the Premier League costs each one: NOW TV Entertainment at around £10 for Sky Atlantic and the drama line-up, a Freely box or Freesat for the free channels, and cancelling outright if the bill no longer justifies itself.

The three genuine alternatives

Costed in full, those are our own plan list, a Freely box or Freesat for the free channels, and cancelling Sky outright if the bill no longer justifies itself.

Sky is a good product and this site has said so repeatedly. But a large share of the households paying £68 a month are watching perhaps a fifth of what they are buying, and there are three legal routes that cover most of it for a fraction of the cost.

RouteMonthlyWhat you keepWhat you lose
NOW TV Entertainment~£10Sky Atlantic and the Sky drama line-upNo contract, but 720p without the Boost add-on
NOW TV Sports~£35 or £15/dayEvery Sky Sports channel, month by monthMore per month, far less per year if seasonal
FreelyFreeLive BBC, ITV, C4 and C5 over broadbandNo Sky channels at all
FreesatFreeThe same, via a dish, with no broadband needNo Sky channels, needs a dish
What the main alternatives cost against a comparable Sky package.

The NOW TV comparison is the one that changes minds. A household that only wants Sky Atlantic dramas is paying £15 a month rising to £22 for something NOW TV delivers for around £10 with no minimum term at all. The picture is 720p unless you pay for Boost, which is a real difference on a large television — but it is a smaller difference than most people expect at normal viewing distances.

For sport, the arithmetic is even starker. Sky Sports at £27 a month costs £324 a year. NOW TV Sports at £35 a month for the ten-month Premier League season costs £350 — worse, until you drop the two summer months, at which point they are level and NOW carries no contract. If you only want a single weekend of football, the day pass at around £15 makes Sky look absurd.

And if the honest answer is that the television mostly shows BBC and ITV, Freely delivers exactly that over broadband with no subscription and no dish, built into most sets sold since 2024.

How to pay less for the Sky package you already have

Assuming you want to keep Sky, there are five reliable levers. None of them require cancelling, and the first two are close to free money.

  1. Drop Sports out of season. Add-ons run on 31-day terms. Two months off saves roughly £54 a year and costs you nothing you would have watched.
  2. Audit the add-ons you forgot. Sky Kids after the children left home, Cinema after the free trial converted, UHD on a set that is not 4K — these persist for years unnoticed.
  3. Call retentions before the step-up, not after. The month before the promotional rate ends is when you have most leverage and Sky has most reason to keep you.
  4. Quote a real competitor price. "NOW TV does this for £10" moves agents in a way that "it is too expensive" does not.
  5. Check whether you need Signature at all. If the honest answer is BBC and ITV plus one drama, Freely plus NOW TV is under £10 a month.
The households that overpay most are not the ones on the biggest package. They are the ones still paying for an add-on they chose for a single series three years ago.

Our verdict

Which Sky package is worth it

7/10

Signature is genuinely good value at the promotional rate and merely acceptable at the standard rate. Ultimate TV is the one tier we would call a straightforward bargain, because it absorbs a Netflix subscription most households are already paying for separately. Everything above that is priced for people who will actually use it, and priced painfully for people who will not.

What works

  • Signature includes Netflix, which offsets a large part of its cost
  • Ultimate TV is cheaper than Signature plus a standalone Netflix plan
  • Add-ons run on 31-day terms and can be dropped seasonally
  • Sky Stream removes the hardware cost entirely

What doesn’t

  • The advertised price is a first-year rate on a two-year contract
  • Sports and Cinema together cost more than the base package
  • Sky Glass hardware finance survives subscription cancellation
  • 4K is a paid add-on even on 4K hardware

Frequently asked questions

How much is Sky TV a month in 2026?

Signature starts on a promotional rate and steps up after twelve months. Adding Sports and Cinema roughly doubles it, and a package carrying everything Sky sells lands near £68 before multiroom. The honest answer on Sky TV cost is that the advertised figure is almost never what leaves your account by month thirteen.

What is Sky Ultimate TV, and is it worth adding?

Sky Ultimate TV bundles Netflix and Sky’s entertainment channels into one line on the bill. It is worth it only if you would otherwise pay for Netflix separately — check what you already subscribe to before adding it, because paying twice for Netflix is one of the commonest ways a Sky bill quietly inflates.

Why did my Sky bill go up without warning?

Almost certainly the scheduled mid-contract price rise, which is written into nearly every Sky agreement and typically lands around month thirteen. It is not a mistake and not a negotiation failure — it was in the contract from the start, which is why comparing Sky packages and prices on the headline rate alone is misleading.

What does the Sky Signature package include?

The base entertainment channels and the Sky Q or Stream interface — but no sport and no cinema, which are separate add-ons. What is Sky Signature package cover in practice: enough for a household that watches drama and factual, and nowhere near enough for one that wants football.

What is the Sky Signature package?

Signature is Sky’s base entertainment package. It carries Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Sky Crime and Sky Showcase, the full Freeview line-up, Sky’s on-demand library, and Netflix at its ad-supported tier included at no extra cost. It does not include Sky Sports, Sky Cinema or 4K — those are separately priced add-ons.

How much is Sky TV per month in 2026?

Sky Signature starts around £15 a month on a promotional rate, rising to roughly £22 after the first twelve months. Ultimate TV is about £22, Signature with Sky Sports is around £42, and a package containing everything Sky sells lands near £68 before multiroom and before the mid-contract increase.

Does Sky Signature include Netflix?

Yes — Signature bundles Netflix at the ad-supported tier at no additional monthly cost. Upgrading to Ultimate TV replaces that with Netflix Standard, which is ad-free, and adds Discovery+. For a household already paying for Netflix separately, Ultimate TV is usually cheaper than Signature plus a standalone Netflix subscription.

Can I cancel Sky Sports without cancelling Sky?

Yes. Content add-ons such as Sports, Cinema and Kids typically run on rolling 31-day terms, separate from the minimum term on your base package. You can drop Sky Sports at the end of the football season and re-add it in August without extending or breaching your main Sky agreement.

Why has my Sky bill gone up mid-contract?

Two things cause this. Most contracts are sold at a promotional rate for twelve months and then step up to the standard rate for the rest of the term — that is written into the agreement and carries no cancellation right. Separately, Sky applies an annual inflation-linked increase, and if that was not fixed and disclosed at the point of sale it usually does give you around thirty days to leave penalty-free.

What is the cheapest way to get Sky channels?

NOW TV, which is owned by Sky and carries the same Sky Atlantic content, from around £10 a month with no contract. The trade-off is 720p streaming unless you pay for the Boost add-on. For sport, NOW TV day passes at roughly £15 beat a Sky Sports subscription outright if you only want occasional fixtures.
